Week 2

Materiality and Sound

Monday 19th February
Test animation 1:: For this test I just decided to test the materiality of the paper and how it flows on the camera

Test animation 2:: For this test I decided to create a loop animation of a paper ripping from the centre of the drawn square and seeing how the creases of the crumpled paper move. Overall I like this test as I think I can take this test further by maybe a thing popping out of the ripped part of the paper or it can be even used as a burning effect if I want to animate something that looks like the paper is burning from the middle.

Test animation 3:: For this test I was trying to do a water type of effect on the paper by crumpling the paper bit by bit when the origami crane moves thus creating a trail. Overall I really like the idea of this test as I get to do 2 applications of the material one with origami and one with crumpling. I also like how the trail movement of the crane is still there and just get getting more and more crumpled up the more the crane moves. I think this test will help me develop my work further as well as for my final outcome as I was thinking of doing something along the lines of this idea. Also I didn’t like how the origami crane blends in with the crumpling of the paper.

Test animation 1:: For this animation test I decided to create a rubbing out type of animation while also doing it straight ahead. For this I decided to go with the 3rd idea of a flame burning in and out. Overall I don’t mind it as I like the concept of the animation but it felt short on the execution as I think I could’ve made the background darker so it wont show any of the white paper as it could’ve made the flame more clearer.

Test animation 2:: For this animation test I decided to go back into drawing the animated sequence on paper by doing pose to pose animation. I decided to draw the cloud pumping out a bit of it and taking the pumped out bit back thus creating a loop. Overall I like this test as I really like how smooth the movement is but I feel like I could’ve made the cloud transform more into an obnoxious form as I feel like the cloud is lacking some excitement.

Test animation 3:: For this animation test I decided to animate a fish coming out of the water. This was an interpretation from the first paper animation I did for this project. Overall I really liked how this animation test turned out as the fish came out of the water smoothly as well as when the fish was spitting out the water. However I wished I made the fish stayed in the surface a little longer as after the fish spat out the water it just goes back down. Also I feel that this animation test is too reminiscent to character animation so I have to nit pick what I can focus more and break it down to pieces.
