Monday 26th February
planning pages for development/ tests as well as final outcome
For this test I decided to make that is reminiscent of the third animation I did with manipulating the paper (origami crane and the crumpling of the paper) by creating an origami whale shark and crumpling two papers in different ways. For this test I decided to animate the crumpled paper background in ones while the origami whale shark in twos therefore creating the background move more fluidly than the origami whale shark which gives off the sense of water. Overall I really like this test as I get to improve from the mistake I did last time as now I made the origami popped out more against the background by using newspaper. However, I could’ve made the origami whale shark move smoothly as the whale shark moves in a jittery way due the background not being flat.
Wednesday 28th February
During this activity we were tasked to do automatic/free writing for 3-4 minutes without being interrupted.

For the first trial we get to write about anything we want not going to lie at first I was confused as I’m really not a good writer, but the idea just came to me quickly which was really interesting to me as normally when I’m generating ideas about anything I have to plan so this was really new to me.

For the second free writing task we swapped a publication (newspaper/magazines/ any piece of text) with my seatmate then open a page at random then closing my eyes and letting the end of the pencil land on a sentence anywhere on the page. I landed on the sentence “Your confidence could do with a boost, especially if you’re entertaining”. For this activity the free writing was easier for me as I was given a prompt as I can narrow down an idea and expand on it but half way through my writing I started writing sentences that I normally don’t write which was surprising for me. But overall I preferred this activity rather than the first one as I personally like writing with a prompt in mind.

For this exercise I was tasked to use the tiles from the first week (also the image above) and have to write 3-5 facts that come to mind based on the images and that I can use personal experience and memory to arrive at these facts.

I had a fun time doing this activity as I tried to remember anything I learnt from my geography lessons back in high school as the photos I have are predominantly geography based images with a bit of science.
After gathering the facts I did a ‘short’ paragraph from a story that includes the facts that I have written and additionally include the same number of pieces of fiction.

I think I went a bit overboard with my writing here as I think this is a long paragraph and also I think I didn’t include any pieces of fiction but I think the piece of fiction started to come out near the end of the paragraph as I started writing some sentences that hasn’t happened but the end also includes some pieces of writing that has happened in the past years. But overall, I had a hard time constructing this paragraph as writing is not at all great but not bad either.

Friday 1st March

For this test I was still experimenting with paper however by putting a wash of ink on top of the crumpled paper with different tones and seeing how it will morph the paper. I actually really liked the outcome of this test as at first I was just putting different tones of ink to the different crumpled sheets of paper but as soon as I started putting the ink wash I noticed that the more diluted the ink is the less it bleeds at the back which gives these interesting ink splotches at the back of the paper which I really like and unexpecting.
For this experiment I decided to go back into animating on paper but this time animating a person. At first this was just a test for me to see if I can animate a human properly and also I just animated it just for fun
